QLC youth church camp (Aha!, not exactly the last post is it?)

I arrived at the church at around 2 and met up with Nevin
He went for lunch, I joined him for a while,
then went to join the YFers at band practice.

Then the camp started
most of the BB boys hadn't arrived yet
Only me, Nevin and Joseph

We were split up into our own groups and went to play some ice-breaker games
I think, among all the groups for the camp
Our group was the only one without BB boys in it, to the exception of me (Cause i'm both BB and YF)

We had to choose our group names based on the letters of LOVE.
Our group name was Eunice
the same name as our group leader...lol
It was kinda amusing to see how she reacted to it.

Afterwards was dinner.
Most of the boys were kinda worried because the food IC (Elena) was a vegetarian
But... dinner was Subway.
I was my first Sub and i must say that it is kinda nice.
The assigned group did not do their duty of clearing up...
I took the liberty to clean everything up. Joseph kept asking why i had to do it.
(Hey! We're BB Boys! Its in our blood!)
I take it that the YFers were grateful

After dinner was free time and then...
MOVIES!

We watched the Dark Knight
It was pretty gross/cool

Like the part where the Joker says...
"Why does everyone freak out when they see me? How about a magic trick?"
He then flourishes a pencil in front of the mafia bosses. One of the bosses calls his men to take the Joker down
"I'm going," waves dramatically at the pencil and sets it upright on the table, "to make this pecil disappear."
The man grabbed the Joker on the shoulder...
The Joker grabbed HIS opponents shoulder and slammed the guy's head onto the pencil, the poor dude falls to the ground.
"See?" looking astonished, "its gone!"
There should be more bloody bits. I just try not to remember them.
I didn't exactly finish the full movie either,
I was up and around finding people and getting some of the boys who were coming in late for the camp. Cause we watched the movie after 9pm.
So the rest were like, coming late?
And, while wandering around, i found Nevin and Joseph practising for the Praise and Worship that the BB Praise and Worship team were supposed to do on the last day of the camp. They were singing the songs that we would be playing. I had asked Nevin last minute (only at the camp itself), to be one of the singers for our band. He's pretty good.
I joined them for a few songs and completed all our songs. Cleared most of the mis-understood parts or the songs.
After that, we went up to continue watching the movie.
towards the end of the movie, i think roughly, halfway through. Wei Kang arrived and i led him up to join us in the movie. Then Garrick arrived about the last 20 minutes of the movie and me and Wei Kang went to "usher" him in.
Wei Kang went back up first,
Garrick hadn't had his dinner so I told Christine (or was it Elena?) that we were going out to get something to eat and then left.
Garrick didn't want to eat food from the opposite market, it didn't look like it was open at this hour anyway. We hiked to Holland V for his dinner. On the way I sorta "briefed" him about the camp. We then talked about what I missed out for the last day on the Fancy Drill camp.
We got back in about 1/2 hour to 45 mins.
The movie had finished by then and the YFers were getting about with their showers.
Yan Keng had arrived too
I went up to see the YFers do one of their final rehearsals.
I went to shower and hopefully do my own rehearsal later.
But alas!
We had to sleep... =(
It was already 1+am by then

Start post:
I woke up,
actually, i woke up many times during the entire night.
It was far too cold to sleep.
I checked my watch, it said 5.30
"Ah heck," i thought, "Just get up, i don't feel like sleeping anyway."
I got up and went down,
Christopher and Gordon were already up.
Guess what they were doing?
Spamming buttons on their PSPs
Ai...
See the difference a PSP makes to your life?
I tried to take a shower, but failed. It was too bloody cold.
I did some 5bx on my own,
A bit of stretching and our traditional "push-ups"
I saw Steffi and Melissa already up. So was Jimmy
I sat around for a while, then thought of sleeping.
as upstairs was too cold,
I brought my sleeping bag down.
Rested it on the short table and tried to sleep.
Failed too, i decided to roll it up.
Then saw Melissa out as she had a Netball match later.
said bye.
Then Gordon left too
so did Joshua, i think.
Played on the playground swing till daybreak
Chatted with Christine and Steffi about some of my concerns for the camp (BB Boys, attitudes... stuff)
Then it was around 8 and we decided to wake the rest up.
heheh.
then,
BREAKFAST!!!
as usual, the other fellas were scared of vegetarian food again
But...
It was bread, kaya, peanut butter and bananas
I made a peanut butter and banana sandwich. Great tasting,
Then Gordon called me to do the projector for the YF praise and worship.
I did the clicking up in the "DJ room"
But got carried away and pressed the button late a couple of times.
SORRY GUYS!
I TOO DARN LOVE MUSIC!!!
BTW, you guys are GOOD!
Then we prepared to leave for Sentosa.
We had much fun in sentosa. Had packed lunch there courtesy of our food IC; Elena =)
Then we played the amazing race, was pretty funny
One of the stations was very humiliating... lol
I ended up with tic-tac-toe on my face.
Afterwards was free time.
I went cycling with;
Yuki
Clarence
Jimmy
Evie
Christine
Elena
I think Mavis too...
We went cycling, but
Elena and Christine went uber-ahead of us
Me and Yuki stayed behind with Jimmy, who lost touch with his cycling.
poor guy,
Poor us
Yuki was also hurt,
We was riding around without hands in circles,
and he fell down.
We returned the bikes an hour later....
Then went around playing and eating for the remaining 45 minutes.
Then we went back.
Got a nasty shock when Brandon told us he couldn't come back to help us with our rehearsal that night.
You see, Brandon's our drummer for that camp.
Our temporary replacement for Joseph,
Cause Joseph can't play most of the songs.
Then we decided to use Joseph for drumming, for the songs we knew only.
When we reached back,
Dinner was of BB style.
Outdoor cooking with mess tins...
loved it.
Chef-Of-Honor;
Me and Wei Kang
(Most of the other BB boys were usually on their PSPs or playing. i don't know about Nevin though)
Elena kept asking me if she was missing anything for the cooking...
Guess she never cooked our style before... heheh...
Should be an unforgettable event/experience for her.
We started cooking.
Other groups just cooked the stuff as they were
Me and my trusty Swiss-Army knife were there to help.
opening Packets of food or Mushroom cans.
Me and Wei Kang made omeletts(is it spelled correctly?)
So it was pretty delicious dinner.
Elena's group seemed to be having some trouble,
So me and Wei Kang went over to offer help (Well, it was her who actually asked for help)
They accepted, or at least, Elena and Elsie did.
We made our trademark omelett.
But it was taking too long...
I had to go at 8pm as my band members were pestering me to go for practice... =(
I didn't get to taste it
I didn't even help with clean up
WHAT KIND OF BB BOY AM I?
Later, Well...
Much to my surprise
Joseph learnt to improvise really well....
He learnt Tell The World...
We were practising really well...
Gordon was helping out with the sound stuff...
We played till One Way
And most of the YFers came up to join us for the outro of the song.
We then did more of Now That You're Near. Cause we really sucked at that song.
Then we decided to end our practice,
cause Christopher was itching to get off and play with the other YFers,
Nevin was dying
Joseph/Garrick/Me were tired
I went to play the instruments around for a while. Mavis and Darren came to join me, We played Hosanna.
Then Christopher later reminded me that i had to do the slides for our Praise and Worship for the next day. I spent all the way to 1am doing that kind of stuff.
Then i went to shower. It was FREAKIN' COLD
Nevin was then asleep hours ago
I then watched the Dark Knight, all the parts that I missed on the first day.
Elena was probably the only one who was asleep by then.
The guys were playing ball games in the same hall as she was and were making a hell of a noise, Had to tell them to tone down, they almost hit a sleeping Nevin once.
I finished with my slides, saved it. Showered
Found;
Yuki
Gordon
Christopher
Mavis.
They were preparing to sleep
I needed somewhere warmer to sleep.
They were thinking of the Sanctuary, the place where we do our Praise and Worship.
I grabbed my sleeping bag. Spent the night beside the Keyboards and Guitars.
(BTW, the carpet's pretty warm and comfy)
//End Action Report//
_____________________________________________________________
I woke up the next day from a call from Brandon informing me that he was on his way to church.
Mavis also got up at that time.
The sun was streaming in and it was already 8.
But everyone was still asleep.
I went down to drink some water to calm my ulcer (It still hurts)
Gladys didn't look so well
Steffi came to ask if i had sweets
I asked, "Who's nauseous?"
Gladys
I quickly went round asking those who were awake for sweets.
Thanks goodness Jonathan woke up at that moment.
He had a bar of Mentos with him.
I gave it to a grateful Gladys.
She looked alright afterwards...
Then Elena woke up and came by asking
Then Breakfast!!!
Peanut butter, and then it was up for last minute rehearsals!!!
But...
due to setting up, powerpoint slides and stuff
We didn't have time to practice.
By then time everything was set up, the YFers had all arrived.
Darn! We only had 1 FULL REHEARSAL and there we were, playing
I meant, we did do guitar rehearsals before, but only 1 with Drums!
So i was pretty scared.
I have no qualms about standing in front of a crowd and singing,
I'm just afraid the band will be lost halfway in the song. Even though we devised hand signs the day before.
We started with "Tell the World" (You can listen to the song on my blog, it should be the 1st one)
It was an awkward beginning.
I still remember my exact opening words.
"Yan Keng, please put that away, i meant the PSP, " I had said...
the people around him had grins.
Then i asked them to stand, the usual stuff.
"Right, our 1st song will be Tell The World, so erm," I cast a glance behind at our Bassist, Garrick, "yep"
The bass drum started
The Bass guitar entered. 2 cycles
All guitars come in. 4 cycles
Ready? I gave Nevin the thumbs up
F# D C#
Don't want to stand here and shout Your praise
And walk away and forget Your name
I'll stand for you if it's all I do
Cause there is none that compares to You
And all I want in this lifetime is You
And all I want in this whole world is you, is you
YEAH! C'MON! TELL THE WORLD!
Tell the world that Jesus lives
Tell the world that, tell the world that!
Tell the world that he died for them
Tell the world that he lives again!
(I messed up the interlude part i think)
No longer I but Christ in me
Cause it's the truth that set me free
How could this world be a better place?
But by thy mercy, by thy grace
And all I want in this lifetime is You
And all I want in this whole world is you, is you
Tell the world that Jesus lives
Tell the world that, tell the world that!
Tell the world that he died for them
Tell the world that he lives again! (x2)
C'mon, c'mon we'll tell the world about You (x6)
(Chorus)
C'mon, c'mon we'll tell the world about You
Tell the world that,
Tell the world that (x4)
About You!
"Our next song will the Blessed be Your name."
We had no problems with this song, except that the drummer was slow at the beginning, but he caught on really fast and we were OFF!
"Right," *coughs*," As you can see from the slides, our next song is "Till I See You"
This song was done beautifully, Drummer was good,
This song also required the most amount of improvisation.
Towards the ending, we were not sure of how to end, we actually started at the Chorus again before realising that the YFers did not have the lyrics to the next slide, so i ended it right there, pretty awkwardly.
"Hehe, " Nervously glances at the audience, "'Now that you're near' guys"
1...
2..
3.
4!
Hold me in Your arms
Never let me go
I want spend eternity with You...
This one was good,
personally,
Its my favourite of all the Hillsong songs.
Its fast and focuses on acoustic
The final song. One Way, was pretty confident by then to do a little dancing
I swapped Joseph with Brandon for drumming for this song as Joseph knows what i'm up to, my preferences.
It sounds exactly like the one on this blog's music player.
The ending was very good.
Then our worship was done.
We went on with some reflection on the past few days and then spent the rest of the days playing games. The YF band and me occassionally played songs when there was free time.
Then it was break camp and Josiah wanted to see me and the Comittee for debrief.
We had to see what didn't really go well
Bye
I gotta go for my BB promotion/ Birthday party
I Will get promoted
like i said in the previous post

The last post for 2008 (Probably)

Hi guys
To top the last few days
Christmas
Last minute band practices
Last minute meetings for the church camp
Fancy Drill camp
QLC youth camp

So here.

I'm back from my 3 day QLC camp.
the last week of december was pretty hectic.
I didn't have much time
luckily i completed all my homework a week earlier.
i'll let you know my schedule for the past week

Monday - Fancy drill practice and church camp meeting in the afternoon

Tuesday - Band practice for the church camp.

Wednesday - Was supposed to be the birthday party, but it was moved to another date, so i'm free on that day

Thursday - Christmas, didn't do much except going out to church for volunteer work and CIP hours.

Friday - Started our fancy drill camp

Saturday - continued with the camp, i left at night cause my parents want me to rest before going to the church camp.

Sunday - Started with the church camp. (WAS VERY FUN)

Monday - Went to sentosa, Outdoor cooking at night

Tuesday - Broke camp, Band performance was at the morning.

So you can see, especially the last 5 days, i have been very busy.
I didn't even have the time to buy my Christmas present.
In fact, i didn't feel a need to buy one at all.
I have changed...

I shall start with Monday (the first monday you see up there)

I went for the chruch camp meeting and saw the YFers doing their band practice for the camp.
I did a recording of their songs...
It was very funny
Then i joined them for a casual version of One Way.
They behaved like a punk rock band for the song.
Cool.

Tuesday was my own band practice
Our drummer couldn't make it
so we used our ex-drummer (Joseph)
We did One Way, blessed be Your name with the drums
the rest were acoustic and electric.

Wednesday was just homework and preparation for camp.

Thursday was Christmas
I did a little volunteer work and for come CIP hours by delivering rice and oil to places around the surrounding areas.

Friday was the start of my BB Fancy Drill camp. (CCA open house preparation camp)

Saturday, continued with the camp. i left early cause for the camp the next day

I'll post about the church camp in another post...

Reporting

Hi guys,
I know i've not been blogging for the past one month.
So here,
I'll just give something brief.
Which is sort of a joke...
Since none of my posts are kinda short.

So here.
I think i'm pretty profecient in my guitaring right now.
I can play almost any song you throw at me.
Provided that i like it.
and that the songs has a pattern to it.
cause i tried to play "I Am" by Hitomi from Inuyasha.
And the chords changed too fast.
Also, no specific pattern to follow.

Another song that's hard to follow. Although it has a pattern... would be:
Part Of Your World by Skye Sweetnam.
But its a ROCKIN' good song!!!

I should do a cover on it.
BTW does anyone know how to upload download links up on blogs.
Like a download link to download a song...
To download a song that you uploaded yourself.
tell me if you can find one
Thanks.

Btw.
We have started our band practices.
at Joseph's place.
Though most of our band members are kinda not regular.
Say... Yan Keng.. Or Jerome,
even if they come, both have their problems.
Yan Keng - Plays Wii
Jerome - Plays XBox

but on overall.
we can play 2 songs now:

Blessed be your name,
and One Way. (the song that's playing on the music player on my blog)

It sounds okay.
Considering that Joseph learnt drumming for that song in 2 days. which was kinda fast in my opinion.
If i can, I'll record and upload...
I just need a programme to upload stuff and post a download link on my blog. ONLY.

Now...
We need a band name.
I got a few.
But among all i think "Addition" still makes sense.
Our "band manager" Benjamin thinks its wise to choose a name that reflects us.
Kinda.
What does the name Addition tell about us?
Well, the band started off with just Benjamin and me.
Then Benjamin left.
Garrick joined
Joseph joined.
Jerome and Yan Keng *kinda* joined.

So in a way... our band isn't always the 5 or 4 or 3 people we have now.
Its a add-on of interested people.

But "Addition" sounds a little... I don't know... Corny?
So Joseph suggested:

26th Theory
or something with Theory behind...

Hm...
But i'd rather take a name that doesn't really associate ourselves with 26th coy.
although its quite okay...
but i'd rather not associate names with other organisations.
It just doesn't sound original.
and, if we were ever to break out,
What would people think of the word 26?
"Why 26?" They would ask.
Then comes the tedious task of explaining.

So a few more weeks of thinking and i came up with:
Astray Add-On

I know, it sounds kinda extreme.
but lots of people have approached me to ask if they could join my band.
but for now. Its strictly a BB band.
No outsiders,
although it MAY change in the future.
So applicants! Don't worry, we might be open in the future!

That's why the word "Astray".
Another reason:
I actually had this crazy idea of taking anyone, who, can or cannot play a musical instrument, but are interested, to our band. And then teaching them an instrument.
Something like Hillsong, who has at least 10 and up to 20+ members on the stage on any one time.

Add-on is just another word for addition.
although it does stray away from the real meaning of the word.
But...
you still get the idea.
I just thought that Astray Addition would only mean one person would be an "astray"
then if it were changed to Astray Addition"s" it would look...
Hey, its actually...kinda okay...

but nevermind.
here's this post's challenge:
I need a band name.
Suggest anything, as long as it ain't obscene.

gotta go.
bye.
ciao!

OH YES!!!
ANYONE interested in signing up for the QLC church camp, come find me!
I'm posting this here cause some of the seniors don't know when it is.

bye...
